Case Study - UI/UX Design

A UI exploration using lo-fi wireframes as a canvas for playful graphics and smooth, intuitive UX.

ROLE:

UI + UX Design

The process:

I created an information architecture map, outlining the key CTAs and main features a user would need: subscription management, billing management, and monthly box customization. I made some simple graphic elements using only 6 colors to be repeated throughout - buttons, toggles, line elements, etc. Sticking to a clean lo-fi aesthetic, mocked up cute wireframes that can easily be adapted into hi-fi UI design or left as a playful app as is.

Research & Inspiration

I looked at several subscription box services, and collected the pros and cons for each one. I used to have Blue Apron for many years and although I stopped using the service after feeling too limited for my vegan diet, I did enjoy using the app. It was easy to take a look at the upcoming week, edit that week’s recipes, change delivery date, and access previous and future recipes. My main issues were that I didn’t know where all the ingredients came from, and sustainable agriculture is really important to me, and it was just too difficult to be vegan using their service - it just wasn’t designed for people like me. So I took the parts of Blue Apron I enjoyed and the things I would have liked to see into a vegan, earth-friendly subscription box where learning about and choosing products that resonate is fun and easy.

UI Design

I wanted to keep the UI as simple and user friendly as possible, so all elements are bold and interactively simple, using buttons and toggles wherever possible. Using only 6 colors, I created a memorable, bold visual style with cute buttons, toggles, and scroll interactions. Designed to keep the mind moving and interactions intuitive, the interface is intentionally simple and graphic.

I wanted users to be able to easily read reviews in-app, add their own reviews, and easily update preferences as they experiment with different products. Though this app isn’t made to have a social function, users can invite friends for a kickback perk, and share feedback on items they liked.
